Hi Prowlers!
Travel back in time with me for a moment. As a kid I loved to entertain: telling stories, performing, being loud (like obnoxiously loud) and bringing laughs! Growing up in Texas in the ‘90s, it never crossed my mind that I could work in the film industry, let alone make a living. That felt like something reserved for those fortunate enough to live in Hollywood.
Eventually, my friend’s Mom encouraged me to begin writing screenplays. I loved writing, and this seemed like a ‘what are the odds’ kinda situation, so it was PURRfect! Things clicked, and like every ambitious waitress with a dream, I chased it the best way I knew: writing, surviving, and staying open to PAWsibilies (the cat puns would come later, YW). Eventually, I returned to college to finish my BA in (can you guess?) Radio, TV, Film. Cah-cawwwww, screaming eagles @ UNT. Anyone?
Fast forward to today, and the spotlight’s swinging toward Texas.
Senate Bill 22 just passed, offering significant incentives for film and television productions to shoot in our state (Hello, Landman…), and leading the charge in Dallas? This week's podcast guest is Katie Schuck, our new Dallas Film Commissioner.
Katie stepped into her role last December and is already bringing new energy, resources, and vision. If you’ve ever dreamed of working in film—or just want to understand how these big creative machines get moving—this episode is for you!
In this episode, we talk about:
What a Film Commissioner does (and why it matters)
The growing opportunities in Dallas for creatives and crew
What the SB22 incentives mean for Texas
Seeing a movie in a theater with other people is such a beautiful experience (on that note, what's playing in your area? You should get tickets and enjoy the camaraderie).
Katie is innovative, strategic, and passionate about helping turn Texas into the creative hub it was born to be!

What else I’ve been up to:
Book signings and water safety talks with Vicki Lawrence are in full swing as summer heats up. It’s been a joy to connect with families, read The Vacation Kitten, and spread a little sunshine with a splash of safety.
If you’d like us to come to your library, bookstore, or local event, just reply to this email. I’m happy to bring the books for sale along with the PAWsitive energy.
Visit this link and take a few minutes to brush up on water safety tips!
This month’s random debate (more of a question):
You're heading to a drive in...what's your go-to movie snack: Gas station nachos? Cheese balls from a tub? This is a safe space...You can share freely.
Also, what did you want to be when you grew up? Did you become that or did you pivot? Is there something more you want to do in life? Maybe Volunteer in that field or take up a hobby...
Thank MEW so very much for being a part of my clowder!
Until next time, stay Clawsome!
Love & Purrs,
Jessica
P.S. lots of love to my sponsors who make everything PAWsible:
