Hi FURRocious Felines,

This gal is a baddie. Sometimes I sit down with a guest thinking I know where the conversation is going (at least having an idea of the direction it will go...), and then they completely surprise me.

Yes, she’s an accomplished attorney, but that’s not what stuck with me. We talked about her family being on the run when she was a little girl, the turmoil and trauma that followed, and eventually becoming a single mom and building a life of her own.

One story especially stayed with me: as a child, her parents’ estate attorney showed Artemis exactly who she would live with if something happened to them. For a little girl who had lived through so much uncertainty, simply knowing there was a plan brought her peace.

Artemis has earned plenty of professional accolades, but the recognition she speaks about with the most pride isn't necessarily about what she does; it’s about who she is and how she shows up for her community. Our conversation became much bigger than estate planning. It was about surviving uncertainty, creating security, raising the next generation, and deciding what kind of legacy we want to leave behind.

And THAT is exactly the kind of conversation I love having on Gal on the Prowl.

My conversation with Artemis got me thinking about plans.

But there is something calming about knowing, “If this happens, I know what I’ll do.” You don't actually have to control the outcome. You just need to trust yourself enough to know you can handle it.

What are you spending energy on worrying about that would become a whole lot less scary if you simply decided what you'd do if it actually happened?

Make the phone call. Have the conversation. Put a little money aside. Update the paperwork. Create the backup plan. Or write your Plan B on a Post-it and slap it on the fridge.

You can't control everything. Trust me, I've tried. 😹

But sometimes having a plan is enough to tell your brain, “Thanks for the emergency meeting. We've got it from here.”
